Snoopy - a new QT PDF Print E-mail
I was excited to find a partly restored quarter tonner through the class web site and to start planning how I would finish off the restoration. My first boat, 25 years ago, was a Stephen Jones SJ30, a derivation from his half-tonner designs and having enjoyed racing this and many other IOR yachts in the 80's, its great to see the revival of the quarter tonner fleet and to join in. I'm really looking forward to some close racing and my wife and I are looking forward to being back in touch with the RCYC and the social life around the Class - the only question my 5 year old daughter keeps asking is "where will I sleep on Snoopy, Daddy?" - she's also a great fan of the name, so I guess it sticks!!

"Snoopy" was built in France in '79/80 and designed by Joubert Nivelt. I haven't been able to find out anything about her racing history although her French registration certificate shows a photo of a rather wild looking bearded Frenchman, Franz Gilles, who seems to have raced the boat in La Trinite and owned her until 2004. A young yachtbuilder - Frederic Juillot - bought the boat with his father and they set about restoring her for themselves - they created a blog site for the repairs, which were quite extensive -

Snoopy is currently with David Heritage racing yachts in Cowes where we're finishing off the work - extending the cockpit, new rig, new deck gear and so on - the only decision still not answered is whether to build an interior for my 5 year old.....!
