. Many thanks to Bill Harris the Chairman of the Jersey Regatta Committee, Helen le Marquand, the St Helier Yacht Club Secretary and Ken le Marquand the Race Officer for all their kind help and enthusiasm for the Quarter Ton Class. However, the biggest thanks has to go to Poldark who with Dave Sharp and Ben Jones (Mic Mac) did an amazing job in getting the boats from the docks to the crane and back again. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. ________ Great regatta - thank you to Louise and in particular to Poldark without whom we would still be scratching our heads trying to work out how to launch the boat. See you next year. Matt Clark - Lancelot It was a very enjoyable weekends sailing and socialising. Most impressive for me was the balance between the quality of the competitors vs. the gentlemanly conduct of all. I found myself a little embarrassed to call starboard when all that was needed was a nod or a thumbs up! This continues onto what is a great bunch of people off the race course as well. As to the logistics of the haul out, much of the credit must go to the owners and crews. De-rigging and getting the boats to the crane in such short order helped. My impression was that aside the lack of wind at times most enjoyed the weekend. I certainly did. Having been a little apprehensive before the event, I am definitely sold on taking part again. Finally whilst thanks must go to Bill and his team for organising the event, much thanks must also go to you and your team for all the effort, energy and co-ordination you put in. It is much appreciated. Dave Sharp - MicMac Having checked in with our team I can echo Louise's and Mark's sentiments. The Tom Bombadil crew had a great weekend in Jersey and look forward to coming back next year. Also if anybody knows when the boats will be back in Pompey, we will go and hide Catch somewhere before Darren picks it up! Kevin George - Tom Bombadil Kev, if you could hide it 'till next June that would be perfect. I would just like to add the sincere thanks of the Catch crew to all involved in this regatta. Just great spirit in more ways than one.... Poldark, you are a star, and we are surely in your debt. Darren Marston - Catch We had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed Jersey immensely. Thank you Poldark for all your help and thank you everyone for putting up with 5 pissed blokes who resembled a stag do more than the usual elite racing team we normally field on Murphy's Law!! Thanks again Mark Cartwright - Murphy's Law Had a great time and looking forward to next year..... Julien Sellier - 45° South It was a pleasure to see you all and great to compete with a gentleman's class! Our Club racing standards certainly need to improve - and by competing with off island 'pro's like yourselves we hope this will help us! Hope to meet up at other regattas in the future. Ben Jones - MicMac Well done Catch, and thanks to everyone for a great time in Jersey, especially Louise and Poldark for all their work in organising it, and to Ollie and Laurent's crew for helping us launch. We enjoyed it so much we stayed two extra days and decimated the lobster population. Cork Week looks doubtful for us as I will be at sea and its a long way for my crew without a navigator (Ventnor is a long way to some of them!) They also went to pick up the boat in Portsmouth and brought back the wrong one (ours!) Roger Swinney - Ayanami To all - the Supernova boys had a fantastic time on and off the water. Also many thanks to Poldark and Louise for all the help with it all. Olly Ophaus - Supernova Results of Jersey Regatta

With high pressure dominant, the light northerlies were in stark contrast to last year’s strong southerly winds that produced somewhat challenging but exhilarating conditions. Notwithstanding the vagaries of a wind that blew fairly fitfully and changeably, there were few that did not enjoy basking in the sunshine on generally calm seas off the Island’s south coast. The Regatta opened with a cruiser race to the Northwest Minquiers buoy, early on the Friday morning. The YC de Dinard’s Marc Noel, sailing the J105 Moontiger, won IRC Class 1 with a five minute lead over Allen Brown’s Melges 24, The Dog’s ……..! The X79, Less Xpense, now being sailed by local man Steve Pearl won IRC Class 2 whilst Loic Gourio’s Malouine (St Quay-Px) won the club handicap class. This race enjoyed the strongest breezes of the Regatta, producing a fast spi run to the Minquiers and a nice beat home. Friday also saw seventeen boats of the visiting UK Quarter Ton fleet (and French boat 45 o South) out for three back-to-back races over a windward-leeward course set to the south of St Aubin’s Bay. Darren Marston’s Catch won two races to take the day just one point ahead of Howard Sellers’ Bullet. Chris Frost and Kevin George’s Tom Bombadil won race 2, coming third in the day’s series. Paul Treliving’s Odd Job was the first Jersey boat, coming 9th overall. Saturday saw a repeat performance with all three boats maintaining the same positions after another three races although Bullet had notched up her first win. Jersey’s Peter Crabb, sailing Jackflash, put in the best performance by a Jersey boat, coming seventh. Sunday saw Catch complete the hat trick. This time, however, Graydon Dawson’s Diamond sailed consistently well, in very light airs, to come second overall, relegating Bullet to third overall after two races, the third having been abandoned due to a severe shortage of wind and excess of tide. RCYC Club Secretary and Quarter Ton Association organiser Louise Morton clinched a first place in the second race, with her Farr 727 Super Q. Certainly a great regatta for Catch! The dinghy, dayboat and sport catamaran classes had their first outing on the Friday evening, to be followed by fairly intensive racing in all classes over the next two days. The Dog’s ……..! took the best overall prize in Class 1, beating Rhys Perkins’ Archambault 35, Abracadabra, by just two points after discards had been taken into account. Simon Benest and Sean Fellows Ker 11.3, Voodoo Doll came third, just one point behind. Less Xpense had a clean sweep in all six races, Class 2, to finish well ahead of Vince Smith’s Laser 28, Shasa. Kevin Holden’s UFO27, Matchless came third. Mark Tucker’s Westerly Merlin, Lisia, just beat Chris Weeks’ Starlight 30, Cassiopeia, in the club handicap class with Malouine coming third. Just 3 points separated these three boats. The dayboat class went to Mike Harrison, sailing his small traditional beach boat Jigsaw. Malcolm Annan’s Jamesina took second, 5 points later, with Cath Challinor’s Jesse coming third. Darren Stower and Mike Winspear had a clear win in the sport-catamaran class after seven races, sailing their Hobie 16, Suma’s. Gordon Burgis’ Hobie 16, Pure Energy, took second whilst Peter Scriven’s 16, FLP International came third. The small catamaran class was won by Emilie Harris sailing the Hobie Dragoon, Eric Young, with the Voak sisters coming second on the Dragoon Orchid. Heather Speller, sailing her Streaker, Flasher, took the overall prize, three points ahead of her husband, Martin, sailing his Laser Standard, Liquid Logic. Tony Newcombe’s Streaker, Stormbird, came third. Top three places in the ‘junior’ open dinghy class went to Optimists. Laurence Carter, sailing Funki Fly, won five of the seven races to take top spot well ahead of George Moisan in Ooh La La and Harry Moisan on Slipstream. The Island’s Lieutenant-Governor, Lt. General Andrew Ridgway, accompanied by Mrs Ridgway and Mr Tim Ringsdore of Jersey Telecom, presented the many trophies and prizes in St Helier Yacht Club on Sunday evening. Regatta Chairman Bill Harris announced that the tenth Jersey Regatta is provisionally scheduled for 5th – 7th September 2008, definitely a date for the diary! Press Release - 3rd September 2007 With less than a week to go, everything is set for the ninth combined Jersey yacht clubs’ Jersey Telecom Regatta, the biggest and most varied event in the Channel Islands’ annual racing programme. With entries currently topping the eighty mark, it is anticipated that about one hundred boats will be racing in St Aubin’s Bay this coming weekend. Most of the Regatta ‘faithfuls’ have entered, including the ILC30, Toybox, last year’s star performer in the top IRC cruiser/racer class, now under new ownership and eager to repeat last year’s near clean sweep. That will be a real challenge in a class that includes many highly competitive crews on fast boats. Last year’s best boat in IRC class 2, John Le Maistre’s Farr 727 Genie will find herself racing in a slightly different environment, this year, being entered in the new Quarter Ton Class in which there are presently nineteen entries. The visiting quarter-tonners have started arriving by Condor ferry from the UK and their gleaming hulls make are making a stunning sight as they accumulate in the boat park, waiting for Thursday’s launch date. The loving care that has been lavished on these boats is extremely impressive and they are sure to make a fantastic sight on the water to be matched, no doubt, by some really top level racing to put the local boys and girls on their mettle. Local interest in this class also includes Paul Treliving’s Oddjob, Peter Crabb’s Jack Flash, Jeff Speller’s 2Farr and Team Micmac’s Micmac. Louise Morton will be racing one-time Jersey boat Super Q whilst husband Peter will be out with Espada. The dayboat, dinghy and sport-catamaran classes will also be providing much in the way of cut-throat competition, with all of last year’s top performers entered as well as many welcome new faces. With the local fleets out in force, St Aubin’s Bay is going to be a very busy place indeed. Racing starts at nine a.m. on Friday with a race for the sportsboat and cruiser/racer classes over a 35-mile course that takes boats to the Northwest Minquiers buoy and back. The Quarter Ton class will make it’s first appearance at midday for the start of the first of three back-to-back races in St Aubin’s Bay whilst the dayboat, dinghy and sport-catamaran classes have to wait until the early evening for their first outing. Saturday and Sunday will see all classes out for some fairly intensive racing tempered by the regatta party on Saturday and prize-giving on Sunday. Full details are available in the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, available on www.rciyc.org and www.shyc.je . Whilst strong southerly winds prevailed last year, providing some very boisterous conditions under leaden skies, this weekend’s forecast promises a real contrast, plenty of sunshine and light to moderate northerly winds to ensure few breakages and some fair weather sailing to round off a very mixed summer season. The organisers are very pleased to acknowledge the support that they receive from the Regatta’s enthusiastic sponsors: Jersey Telecom, the lead sponsor for the fifth year in succession, Sandpiper CI, Trant Construction, Bedell Group and Jersey Tourism whilst Jersey Harbours is generously providing complimentary berthing and much valuable assistance. Press Release dated 13th July 2007 Designed for both local and visiting sailors alike, the Jersey Telecom Regatta, for eight years the jewel in the crown of Jersey’s busy sailing programme, is being staged over the weekend of 7th to 9th September. This annual sailing spectacular is the ‘really must attend’ event in the Channel Island’s sailing calendar. Last year, just under eighty boats, including boats from the UK, France and Jersey’s sister islands, competed in boisterous conditions to provide some of the most spectacular racing seen in the life of the Regatta. This year sees the arrival of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club’s recently revived UK Quarter Ton fleet, racing in the new Quarter Ton class and, not to be outdone, the French Quarter Ton fleet coming to do battle, promising some keen competition and lively racing, not to mention partying. Regatta Chairman Bill Harris said ‘We are very pleased to see this super event building both in reputation and recognition, year-on-year, and look forward to providing a very warm welcome to visiting competitors and a great Regatta for local sailors and visitors alike’. Designed to ensure excellent racing and fun for all competitors, both young and not-so-young, the Regatta’s challenging three-day schedule is accompanied by a lively social programme to round off each day and give visitors the opportunity to coax valuable ‘local knowledge’ out of their Jersey rivals. Proceedings open with a welcoming reception on the Thursday evening at the Royal Channel Islands YC whilst racing gets under way early on the Friday morning with a coastal race for the cruiser/racer and sportsboat classes. The Quarter Ton class follows with the first of three back-to-back races around Olympic courses in St Aubin’s Bay, starting at midday. The evening will see the first races in the dinghy, dayboat and sport-catamaran classes and there will be an impromptu race for the cruiser/racer classes on their return from the offshore race. A full programme of races for all classes on Saturday and Sunday will keep everyone busy with courses set to the south of the Island for the cruiser/racers, sportsboats and Quarter Tonners. The day-boat, dinghy and sport catamaran classes will compete over courses set in the beautiful surroundings of St Aubin’s Bay. The traditional Regatta party, invariably a sell-out, takes place on the Saturday evening with a grand prize giving on the Sunday when the Island’s Lieutenant-Governor Lt-General and Mrs Andrew Ridgway will present the many coveted trophies. For the fifth year running, Jersey Telecom is the Regatta’s principal sponsor. Sales and Marketing Director Tim Ringsdore said: ‘We are delighted be associated with the Jersey Telecom Regatta, once again, and are looking forward to an exciting, eventful and enjoyable three days, hopefully with great racing conditions.’ The Regatta is co-sponsored by CIT Estates, Trant Construction, the Bedell Group, Jersey Tourism (www.jersey.com) and Jersey Harbours who are kindly providing complimentary berthing for competitors throughout the Regatta. The Jersey Telecom Regatta is organised by the Royal Channel Islands YC, St Helier YC and St Catherine’s SC, who extend a very warm invitation to all yachtsmen to join them in what they are sure will be a truly lively, rewarding and memorable occasion.
